Let’s Talk.

Giving

You’ve probably heard the saying, “There are two types of people in our world; givers and takers.” Givers are those selfless people who are generous with all of their resources. Takers are the more self-centered variety who take advantage of any opportunity to get. Yet, according to Jesus, you will be more blessed if you give than if you receive (Acts 20:35).

Why? Why is it a greater blessing for me to give than it is for me to receive? It is important to know the “why”; because knowing why will help you follow through with being a generous giver.

So, here are five reasons as to why it is better to give than to get.

Christianity and Politics

Life can get tense during a heated political season. This has certainly been true of the most recent one. Sadly, people have and will lose their temper and say cruel things. Families have been and will be fractured. Some will feel betrayed. But it doesn’t have to be that way. And I’m pretty sure that Jesus doesn’t want for His followers to be tortured by the political process. So, what are we to do?

Regardless of whether your candidates won or lost, here are seven things that every Christian should do in regards to politics…

What Should the Church Be Like?

What should a church be like? That’s a great question, and I believe the answer is found in the story of the first followers of Jesus. After all, if there is a Christian church that today’s churches should emulate, shouldn’t it be the very first church?

So, what were the characteristics of the early Christians? What defined their church? We find the answers in Luke’s book…

A Mother's Heart

For many people, Mother’s Day is a time to stop and say, “Thank you!” to our moms for the many ways they have served their family. It seems that if you were to try to sum up it one word a job description for moms, it would be “servant.” It’s not that we think of our moms as servants, it’s just that seems to be so much of what they do – they serve their…

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is not weird – people are weird. The Holy Spirit is the very presence of God at work in our lives. Jesus sprung this idea on a man named Nicodemus. John tells the story of how this important leader approached Jesus in the darkness of night. Jesus immediately said…

Baptism

Baptism is a beautiful ceremony of faith and obedience that comes with tremendous promise. Jesus connected baptism to “new birth” (John 3:5), Peter preached that it was for the removal of sins (Acts 2:38), Paul taught that in baptism we are clothed with the righteousness of Christ, and to the Romans he wrote that we are raised to newness of life (Romans 6:5). In this simple act of faith, we receive incredible blessings…

Worry, Anxiety, Fear

When it comes to ease, we live in the greatest time that there has ever been. Our homes, cars, businesses, the far-reaching corners of our lives all have incredible technologies that didn’t exist a decade ago. Today’s tablets are more powerful than yesterday’s computers. Today’s TV’s seem to be more real than life itself. Our home air-conditions adjust to our presence. Cars are driving themselves. Drones are delivering groceries to our homes. And yet, so many of us live lives filled with worry, anxiety and fear…

A Dark Time

Recently someone asked, “Have you ever been through a dark time?” Like me, you probably just thought, “Yes.” Perhaps that’s where you are right now. Maybe you are in the middle of a long, dark trial even now. You’re probably asking the same questions that I asked: “When will it be over?” or “How long will it last?” or “How do I get through it?” Unfortunately, the Bible doesn’t tell us how long the trial will last. However, it does tell us two things that give us hope: how to get through the trial and that our trial has a purpose…

Binge in His Presence

Within our family there really isn’t a Thanksgiving holiday tradition. We definitely prepare and eat the favorite foods – fried turkey, sweet potato casserole and all the delicious things we love. But beyond that, our tradition is that we don’t really have one.

So, this past year, the Thanksgiving holiday…
