Let’s Talk.

I Want To Do Better

I want to be a better person, I want to be a better husband, I want to be a better dad, I want to be a better friend; maybe you have made similar statements to these. If so, there are two things you can do to guarantee that you will “do better”: number one, pray James 1:5; and number two, apply Colossians 3:16.

1. pray James 1:5 which says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.” (James 1:5 NLT)

It’s that simple, if you want wisdom, pray in faith and God will give it to you. However, when you pray, don’t just pray for general wisdom. Ask for specific wisdom.

  • To be a better person, specifically pray that God will give you wisdom to be a better person.

  • To be a better husband/wife, strategically pray that God will give you divine understanding to be a better spouse.

  • To be a better parent, make that request – “God, grant me wisdom to be a better dad/mom.”

  • To be a better friend, ask your heavenly Father to give you the understanding you need to be a good friend.

  • To be a better business person, focus your prayers and ask God to give you insight in your business decisions.

James continues, “But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind” (James 1:6 NLT).

When you pray, be completely persuaded that God will answer your prayers and grant your petition.

2. apply Colossians 3:16 which says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Colossians 3:16 KJV).

The Word of God is filled with wisdom for living – so study it, memorize it, meditate on it. The more you fill your mind and heart with the Scriptures, the more you will grow in understanding life principles that will help you to “do better.”

To do better, remember these two principles: pray for specific wisdom and consume the wisdom of the Word.
