Ten Blessings God Promises the Generous
God makes more promises about generosity than almost any other subject in Scripture. He is a promise-keeping God. When we honor Him with what He has placed in our hands, He attaches real blessings to that obedience—not as a slot machine, but as a Father who forms our hearts and takes care of His children.
Here are ten of those blessings, in a simple flow from the heart, to daily life, to family and work, to increase, and finally to eternity.
1. You will be happier
Jesus said it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). We serve a giving God. As children we loved opening gifts. As we grow—and especially once we have children and grandchildren—the greater joy is giving. Generosity opens the door to the joy of the Lord.
2. Good things will happen to you
“Good comes to those who lend generously and conduct their affairs fairly” (Psalm 112:5). People often assume the generous are generous because they have already been blessed. Scripture says the opposite: blessing follows generosity.
3. God will meet all your needs
Decide in your heart what to give—not reluctantly or under pressure. God loves a cheerful giver. “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:7–8). He promises needs, not every want. He has been faithful to meet ours even in lean seasons.
4. God will protect you
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse… Put me to the test… I will rebuke the devourer for you” (Malachi 3:10–11). Fear holds back “just in case.” Faith trusts God to guard what we have. Living generously is living under His covering, not under anxiety.
5. Your children will be blessed
The godly “always give generously and their children are a blessing” (Psalm 37:26). If you want your children blessed in their walk with God, their marriages, their work, and their future, be a blessing to others. God can open and close doors for them far better than we can.
6. Your work will be blessed
“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty” (Proverbs 3:9–10). Put God first with what you earn, and He takes care of the work of your hands—your job, your business, your household.
7. God will give back in full measure
“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38). The overflow is not only for you. It is margin so you can keep blessing others. You will never out-give God.
8. God multiplies what you give
“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully” (2 Corinthians 9:6). A little in your hand is only a little. The same amount in God’s hands feeds far more people than you ever could on your own—like the boy’s lunch in Jesus’ hands.
9. Your influence will increase
“The world of the generous gets larger and larger. The world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller” (Proverbs 11:24). Generosity expands your reach—in your family, your church, and your community. If you want greater impact in the years ahead, sow generously now.
10. Your giving is stored as treasure in heaven
Use your money to do good. Be rich in good works and ready to share. “By doing this they store up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life” (1 Timothy 6:18–19). What we give here is received first in heaven. Moth and rust cannot touch it.
God is not asking us to live by a list of rules. He is inviting us to build our lives on His promises. You can live by fear or by faith. Lean on the One who keeps His word.
